The vehicle crossed in front of him while he was crossing on a green, definitely the driver’s fault. Kid didn’t do himself any favors by not wearing a helmet and jumping while crossing the street.

Have some fucking patience and let kids on bikes cross before making a right turn.

However, if I was a cop I’d find the owner of thr Micky D’s Camaro and ticket him for the accident instead.

Biker. He wasn’t even in the crosswalk, he was in the street because he had to jump the curb. Car had plenty of time to make the turn, and was well outside of the crosswalk when he was hit by the bike. Idiot kids.

I don’t know about the US, but where I live, a bike qualifies as a vehicle, so other vehicles don’t have to yield if you ride one through a crosswalk (which is for pedestrians).

Also, the guy at 0:44 has the worst reflexes ever.

The answer was in the video caption. Occurred in VA; cyclist should’ve walked the bike across the intersection but didn’t so gave up his rights as a pedestrian.

Bikes are technically vehicles so kid shouldn’t have been in the crosswalk. Also, looks like the red hand is illuminated. Also, he sucks at riding a bike because despite everything he is going all of 3 mph and should be able to stop within a foot.

The driver also sucks. Hitting the brakes before the impact instead of accelerating, letting off the brakes and then hitting them again, it almost seems like the driver is lining the kid up to have them hit their car.

Both people are dumb.

Why did they brake?? They had 7 seconds to make it through the turn before the kid hits their car, that’s p lenty of time to make it 20 feet and avoid that.

I am a firm believer that braking unnecessarily is a major cause of most accidents and traffic. Just fucking GO!

with the way the kid was riding he probably was trying to judge where he was heading. it looke d like he was going to keep cutting left and then didnt and hit the car.

That driver should focus more on driving forward and improve their painfully bad judgement. Look at these screen shots:

At 8:38: They started the turn

At 8:39: They braked to hopefully see what the kids were going to do.

At 8:40: They decided to accelerate and not brake or yield which is fine because as you can see there is plenty of distance and time for even a POS like that to accelerate. At this point they should’ve been 20+ feet ahead of the bike had they simply accelerated the entire time.

At 8:41/8:42 : When the kid is about parallel with the car they decide to brake. Again, had they accelerated earlier they would’ve been way ahead of the kid or at the very least caused a near miss.

At 8:43: They decide to get off the brakes just as the kid is about to make contact.

I have trouble blaming the kid here when the adult is in the faster vehicle (compared to a bicycle) and should’ve either yielded earlier or accelerated earlier there is no in between. Can’t be that i ndecisive when piloting a 2 ton machine.

As a fellow motorcyclist, we know that it doesn’t matter who has the legal right of way if you’re dead.

Cyclists have to monitor a lot of things at the same time, no matter if we’re following the right of way, I’ve found myself in situations akin to that because of surveying the space around me.

This one time, a cyclist to my right cut off a car that wanted to turn right, I was waiting for the car to turn right, but since the cyclist cut him off, the car stepped on it’s brakes i nfront just ahead of me and I almost crash. Damn cyclist.
